That is actually what totally won me over with the M37, it’s like driving a huge pre war car way up on top, nothing to block the view.

It’s supposed to get back up into the 80s here this week after several days of cold/wet weather; hopefully I can drop the windshield for a few days before fall hits in earnest.

Hit a few personal records this summer: 65mph with the windshield down (briefly), first bug splatter on my sunglasses, most days with the windshield down (not entirely sure how many, close to double digits).

A friend of mine back in the day had a Jeep, and we took it up on the Blur Ridge Parkway one time. We thought it might be fun to put down the windshield. That lasted about 5 minutes. It sucked.

It’s definitely not conducive to conversation, but on a hot day it’s spectacular.

I owned 2 Tjs and never once put the windshield down.

My side-by-side came without windshield, and that was the first thing i bought for it.

Well my truck isn’t done yet and we haven’t had any rain for a long time, nice cloud cover by the coast here makes for pleasant cruising.

I definitely keep thinking about motorcycle or aviation goggles. The prescription is a problem, however.

Nice! Yellow flatfender Willys would be on my very, very, very short list of dream vehicles.

Nice. The last goggles I bought that promised the same do not, in fact, fit over anything as large as I wear (since I use progressive lenses, I prefer larger glasses).

I’ll give those a shot.

After reading reviews, it appears that they may not be as advertised. The only complaint seems to be regard ing not compatible with wearing glasses.

If you’re willing to pony up some cash, you could look in to military   UPLC standard inserts (meaning next year you’ll probably still be able to find goggles that fit the same prescription insert) . I haven’t tried it myself . Needing eye protection more often is a big part of why I started using contact lenses, but I’m not in love with them because I can’t see up close .

It is fun when you are just putting around but over 25mph and things can hit you! I was looking for a law about that so I called the CHP, they were pretty clueless, I guess it’s a topic of debate on Jeep forums and it varies state to state. On a motorcycle you need eye protection, so I kind of assumed you could on a public road with eye protection. The CHP lady was not helpful when I called and just said she wouldn’t do it at any great speed, acted annoyed. Well who the fuck should we ask lady!! Well I will do it on slow roads until I get a warning I guess.

I wrote about it a long time ago: https://oppositelock.kinja.com/the-jeep-experience-part-4-full-frontal-1828181066

In Indiana the law is ambiguous: the vehicle must be “equipped” with a windshield. My argument if I get pulled over: it’s equipped, it’s just not engaged right now!

I was nervous the first few times I saw a police officer with it down, but no one cares.

I remember that. Exactly, I asked about that, it says a vehicle originally equipped with one must have one. So I suppose a very old vehicle might have a tiny glass shield that is almost useless, but legal. It never says what we do with it if it moves! I would never do it on the highway anyway, I just want to go to the store like that or to the next town.

I’ve up to 60-65mph on highways. It’s not bad if it’s warm enough.

I remember bugs in Hawaii hitting my motorcycle helmet and wow that wouldn’t be good on my face! It was hot so I just kept the bottom out a little but for air flow.

As I discovered while riding in David Tracy’s CJ-2A around the Toledo Jeep Festival, no one stops you, even when you’re riding through closed-off roads around pedestrians.

A friend of mine had a jeep back in the late 80s. He came to visit me at college, and we took the Jeep up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and put the window down. It sucked. We put it back up after about five  minutes of driving.
